OK.  So my first summer session is over. yes, I’m taking the second one too because I thought it really wasn’t that bad.

From my experience(and yours may differ):

• summer sessions go by way faster then regular semesters.
• they aren’t that difficult, the professors usually try to make it simple.
• you’re not wasting the whole summer and actually getting classes out of the way while you work/party/do whatever
• Yes, class timings are LONG i.e. I had 3 hr 40 minute classes Mon through Thursday.
• Yes, it’s very expensive for international students.

So here you go. A short list of pros & cons of summer school that might help you decide your next summer plans.

p.s. I am taking the second summer session too, because I really want some classes out of the way and a better Fall semester

The International Student Center at SDSU always comes together and creates fun events to get involved with. Since the World Cup is on everyone’s minds these days, the ISC has planned to get together and watch some of these matches at a mexican restaurant near campus. So if you’re in town , this is a great way to meet other sdsu students and have some yummy breakfast burritos!

I got to attend one of my really good friend’s graduation ceremony at San Diego State University, and it was a great experience!

Graduation is a big deal here; families and friends all attend it and celebrate afterwards. It was a really good experience as there were so many people and the graduating students looks super cool in their gowns and caps.

I got a bouquet of flowers for my friend, got to meet her family, attended her graduation dinner hosted by her family and finally gave her a surprise graduation party!

I can’t wait to graduate and have my family and friends see me walk and get my diploma…!

I get a week off before summer school starts. Good thing I have my on campus job to keep me busy. A lot of my friends and sdsu students in general are gone for the summer and the campus is really depressing right now. I’m hoping that changes once summer school begins.

I’ve never really taken summer classes at sdsu before so I’m curious how it’ll be. I have classes mon-th 6-9:40 yikes…I hope I survive!

A lot of students showed up so it was really crowded but the music was good and we got great seats…not that it mattered because everyone was standing up and dancing as soon as the concert started

In short, college concerts are very different from other regular concerts at other venues and you should reallt attend one while you’re here..I’m sure you guys will love it!

Every Friday at noon, the ISC holds a coffee hour hosted by a different country each week. It’s a great way to meet people from different countries, make new friends and of course try out food from different countries too. International students host these coffee hours and I actually hosted one for Pakistan this semester. It was a Pakistani Peace Coffee hour and we had a special guest speaker, one of SDSU’S Professors come in and speak to students about peace. We served chai and Pakistani food followed by some cultural dancing. The event had a great turnout and was so much fun to organize. So if you have any such ideas, or want to hosta  coffee hour for your country…ISC encourages you to go for it !

This is my first time taking summer classes at San Diego State University.  The summer semester is really helpful if you want to catch up with your classes or speed up your graduation, which is my reasoning for taking summer 2010 classes. There are three options: session 1(from May end-July beginning), session2(from July to Mid August) or the entire summer session which is from May to August.

The classes are usually longer and meet more times during a week than a regular semester so students usually prefer to take only one or two classes during the summer. And of course, you need to check the schedule to see what is being offered because not all classes are offered during the summer

Yes, it was spring break last week and SDSU was off for the whole week.

Spring break is a huge deal in american schools as students always plan to travel or do something fun during this time. I’d never really done much on spring break so I decided to stop being lazy and ended up planning a trip to New York with some of my friends.

Of course you have to save for spring break, which is exactly what I had been doing ever since the semester started. It’s not that expensive though, esp if you decide to share a hotel room and split with your friends.

I had been to new york several times before but never with friends so this was a completely different experience. We did a whole bunch of sightseeing and walking around, lots of good food and just so much fun. It was definitely one of my most memorable travelling experiences and I’m so glad I went ahead with it.

So if you’re planning on coming to San Diego State, make sure you don’t miss out any such chances of going on trips with other students and exploring other cities.It’s definitely a must have college experience!:)

Plan ahead: exams aren’t all that hard if you’ve been studying regularly and keeping up with all your readings and homeworks. However if you haven’t been doing all this, things just might get a little tough.
