There are tons of student organizations you can join so you’re more involved on campus. Many of them are directly related to your major so you get to meet so many people and it’s a really good way to network. Professors always encourage this, esp is you’re a business major.

I was always lazy about going to one of their meetings but I made an effort to go to the Finance Investment Society and it was really fun. We had recruiters from Geico come and talk about their jobs and then we had a speaker from Merrill Lynch and we got a chance to meet him and get lots of advice and info about internships and jobs. The best part is allt hese people stick around after the meeting so you get a chance to meet them individually and give them your resume or ask any questions you have.

And ofcourse, there was free food:)

Okay..so lets talk about the real thing now. After all the studying and hard work it really comes down to one final thing; finding a job.

Okay so the economy isn’t doing well, true. Finding a job is hard, true. Being an international student makes things even more complicated; true again. This isn’t too motivating is it?but the truth is, it’s not impossible.

There are so many opportunities out there and the university helps you in every possible way. We have websites where we can see all the job listings and employers coming to campus. There are organizations where recruiters come and speak about their employment opportunities and give you a chance to network. Finally, there are career fairs where you can really find something if you’re ready for it.

More info coming…so stay posted :)

You go see one of these  entertainment shows!!!

The shimmy sisters are two belly dancers who perform with live music;a fusion of Indian/ Middle-Eastern music .

I went to one of their shows in Ocean Side and they had the coolest dance performance with snakes and well,it was really fun.

Check out their site for more events in San Diego: http://theshimmysisters.com/events.html

Books are expensive…100-200 bucks for a single textbook.it’s makes me so angry!but you have to buy them, there’s no way around that. You can get used books at the SDSU bookstore or the bookstore across aztec center. They’re cheaper. But you know what’s cheaper, finding them online and buying them online.

I always find books on ebay; they have an international edition which usually works just fine. Ask your professor if you can buy this edition and if he/she say OK then just do it!will save you a fortune :)

p.s. there are many other sites to buy cheaper books online

It’s not that there isn’t enough parking on campus, believe me there are tons of parking structures spread out!But it gets hard to find parking where you really want to.

For instance, I always park at PS4;it’s close to there International Student Center where I work so since I’m running late almost every other day, I prefer to park closest to work. At times PS4 gets crazy.Like today..it took me about 20 minutes to find parking and just when I was about to give up and go to another lot, I found one *phew*.

Note: plan ahead of time and always remember traffic and parking can make you late

I’m back in San Diego. After lots of home cooked food, family and friends, going back to school is quite honestly not very exciting. I have a bad jetlag that I’m trying to get rid off before school starts.

I did get to register for classes but have some late evening classes, I’m not sure how that’s going to work out. I just checked my list of books I need to buy(you can do that through your webportal account) and they seem pretty expensive.books are usually expensive so try finding used ones or order them online from amazon or ebay but be careful because these websites have international editions which may be slightly different from the one you need. You can ask your professor for more info on this.

First day of school is almost here…im just hoping the professors are good and the classes not too hard.

*fingers crossed*

Okay so my registration date and time finally came and I had cleared my insurance hold..so I got to register for classes just the way I wanted.I’ve got 5 classes,16 units and my class schedule seems pretty decent. However I still need to call advising and talk to them about my classes and if I’ve made the right choice.

Tip: some classes are only offered in spring or fall..so make sure you know when you’re classes are offered else you’ll be stuck till the class is offered next sprinf/fall.

Finally,it’s over!finals finished last week..and it took me a few days to get back into my normal self again.

there are always a couple of things to take care of before leaving home for the winter break or doing whatever you plan on doing during the break. Make sure you have your I-20 signed within the past year..make sure you’ve paid your registration and your health insurance and make sure you have an idea about what classes to take next semester and have made a wishlist on your webportal.once these things have been taken care of,you’re all set to enjoy the holidays!

once the exams finish, things get kinda weird.you get to catch up with alot of friends and stuff.you get to have fun and do the things you had been thinking about before finals.but you also feel a lil awkward that there’ s no more studying to do for a month and no work.but it all works out well.

As for grades, professors are pretty fast about checking finals and the grades are posted asap on your webportal.

So yes, the winter break has officially started :)

The student health services, located at Calpulli Center(on campus) is a great help for ever sdsu student. If you’re sick,if you need immunization, if you need to buy medicines or even just get dental care;you can get it right on campus!

it’s really important to take care of your health especially during the end of semester with all the exams and papers going on. It’s a good idea to go and get seasonal flu shots before winter starts so that you can be healthy and give your full attention to studies, finals and anything else you need to work on. Oh and don’t be surprised if professors in class keep telling you again and again to get those flu shots..they do care about their students and want everyone to feel well.

If you are really sick and cannot take a test or have to miss a class, always let your Professor know beforehand!!!If you email them and let them know on time, they will always try their level best to help you.I cannot guarantee that you will be able to retake your tests/finals but most of the times your professor will help you figure out a solution so that you aren’t left behind just because you’re sick.

For more information about health services provided at SDSU,check out: http://shs.sdsu.edu/shsHome.asp

Stay healthy:)
